The 5 days Mount Elgon hiking adventure involves exploring and experiencing Mount Elgon in Eastern Uganda. It is one of the best volcano hiking safaris and it is designed for you to explore the scenic Wagagai Peak, the highest peak of Mount Elgon. This volcano hiking adventure takes 4 nights and 5 days. 

Mount Elgon is an outstanding attraction in Eastern Uganda. It lies and shared by Uganda and Kenya. It is from this magnificent volcano where Mount Elgon National Park takes its name. Exploring this volcano is possible through its well-developed hiking trails, each of which ushers you to distinct attractions. Your 5 days Mount Elgon hiking adventure begins and ends in Kampala/Entebbe.

Detailed itinerary of the 5 days Mount Elgon hiking adventure 

Day 1: Travel from Kampala-Budadiri 

Have a hefty breakfast and after, your safari leader will pick you up from your respective place of residence or hotel in Entebbe/Kampala. After, he will brief you then you begin your 5 days Mount Elgon hiking adventure trip to Mount Elgon through Jinja highway-Iganga-Mbale. Lunch break will be made en-route then arrive early in Mbale where you will connect to Budadiri. This will be 5-6 hours’ drive. Budadiri is where you will commence your hike to the beautiful summits of Mount Elgon. 

You will be briefed on your hike to Wagagai peak and later, get your walking stick ready to begin your trek. This takes you through the lush plantations to Sasa Camp at elevation of 1200m. 

Day 2: Leave Sasa River Camp for Mude Camp

Have an early morning breakfast and after, begin your second phase of hiking to Wagagai peak. Leave Sasa River Camp, hike to Mude Cave Camp at altitude of 3500m. This will be 4 to 5 hours hike. 

Day 3: Leave Mude Camp for Wagagai peak then return to Mude 

After breakfast, be prepared to make a complete hike to the magnificent summits of Mount Elgon about 8-9 hours. Explore the Wagagai peaks (4321m), the highest point of Mount Elgon. Expect to enjoy jaw-dropping views of the peak, surrounding areas and after, descend to Mude Camp. 

Day 4: Return to briefing point then drive to Mbale.

Following an early morning breakfast, walk back to where you began your hike the first day. You will take the Sipi trail that allows you enjoy incredible views of the Sipi Falls, caves, Sipi River and a lot more. You will have lunch along the way then have your dinner and overnight stay at a hotel/lodge of your choice.

Day 5: Return to Kampala

After a heavy breakfast, drive back to Kampala. But your area interest on this adventure tour will be the source of the Nile where you will engage in white water rafting. This is done at Itanda Falls. Drive back to Kampala/Entebbe through the lush Mabira Forest Reserve.
