Rwanda Safaris

The land of a thousand hills as it is commonly known, is filled with staggering beauty, a shelter to over 13 species primates all in one habitat, the Big 5, endangered mountain gorillas in the northern slopes of Virunga, comfortable accommodation facilities and amazing authentic culture.

Its unbelievable beauty has drawn millions of travelers from across the globe to come and experience the wonder. The scenes of green plain savannah are home to huge prides of lions, rhinos, buffaloes and giant elephants, while the lush smoky forests inhabit the well sought after mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. Meanwhile, many also come here to enjoy the seamless culture, fresh water lakes (Lake Kivu and Ihema), golden monkeys, rugged dormant volcanoes (perfect for hiking) and its rich history of genocide that has turned this once troubled country into a peaceful nation growing fromstrength to strength.

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda

Watching the playful and gigantic mountain gorillas in the lush misty forest of Parc national des Volcans is purely heartwarming, life changing and an experience you’ll hardly forget.

A gorilla trek in Rwanda is led by an exert trained ranger which treks with you through a dense forest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The park has over 10 families and each of them is unique in its own way; but the eventual one-on-one encounter with a specific family is heartwarming, viewing the infants playing with each other, mother gorillas taking care of young ones, and the giant silverback staring at you is a magical experience you will forever remember and something to add on your bucket list during your next African safari.

A gorilla trek unlike Uganda and D.R. Congo is quite expensive, with each permit sold at 1500$, but the luxury and exclusivity that this comes with is truly unmatched elsewhere.

The Big Five in Rwanda

here is perfect game viewing in the savannah plains of Rwanda, away from mountain gorillas. The wetlands of eastern based Akagera national park provide safe refuge of both fauna, flora and bird variety. Over 500 bird species dwell here, while zebras, elephants, giraffes, rhinos and lions call this place a permanent home.

In the south west, there is Nyungwe forest which is a famous habitat for over 13 species of primates, remarkably the chimpanzees which draw millions of visitors to this amazing national park, variety of bird species of up to 300 different species, tea plantations, abundant flora and so much more that make this park a true wonder.

When to Visit Rwanda

There are two sunshine peaks in Rwanda, one starting from June to September and the other short dry season that lasts from December till end of February. During this time, game viewing is ideal within Akagera national park, as well as primate trekking in Nyungwe forest and Volcanoes national park.

City tours and culture excursions can be done all through the year, but generally dry season is recommended for one to visit Rwanda and enjoy wholesomely without much interruptions.
