This is a very unique safari, as it involves two-time gorilla trekking encounters; therefore, you have a chance to see two different gorilla families in Volcanoes national park.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Depart from Kigali city to Volcanoes National Park

Have breakfast at your hotel as you prepare for a pick up by an experienced safari guide. After, pick up proceed for a short city tour around Kigali, visit the genocide museum and the presidential palace. These sites are rich in Rwanda’s history of the 1994 genocide.

Tour and get to know about the massive slaughter in Rwanda where over 800,000 people perished. After lunch, transfer to volcanoes national park. This national park is located in the north western region of Rwanda which is about 106 kilometers - a 2 hours’ drive from Kigali. Arrive at the park, check in at the lodge and wait for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: First gorilla trek in Volcanoes National park

Wake up early for a delicious breakfast and transfer to Kinigi - the starting point of gorilla trekking. This will be after a briefing by the park’s warden, proceed into the jungle to trek the mountain gorillas. This activity will take about 2 to 6 hours searching as the gorillas will also be moving around for food.

Spend one hour interacting with a particular gorilla family and take memorable pictures and videos. After, retire to the lodge for a rest and an overnight.

Day 3: Second gorilla trek in Volcanoes national park

Rise up early for another gorilla experience in volcanoes N/park; after breakfast hike into the jungle to trek another gorilla family. Volcanoes national park has a total of 12 habituated gorilla families and on this second day, explore another interesting gorilla family. Witness these endangered species going about their usual livelihoods in the jungle eating, resting, wrestling and grooming each other. After you will return for a rest at the lodge and an overnight.

Day 4: Musanze caves tour and return to Kigali

After a warm cup of tea, hike to Musanze caves at the periphery of volcanoes national park. These caves were used as crowning grounds for the ancient kings of Rwanda. Tour and get to know more about the interesting history of ancient Rwanda. After have a road transfer to Kigali city for departure to your next destination.
