Expect to uncover what happens in the jungle of one of the oldest national parks in Africa; Virunga national park; situated in the slopes of the Virunga chain of mountains, and harboring the world's endangered mountain Gorillas.
Within the 3days, you should have understood why gorillas are called man's closest relatives, enjoyed African cuisine, cool weather and hospitality. More memories are and fun will be got at Lake Kivu, Kigali city and from the breathtaking sceneries in the countryside, the trip starts and ends in Kigali - Rwanda.
Details
Day1: Arrival and depart to Virunga national park
Meet and be briefed by our expert driver-guide at either the airport or hotel around Kigali city Rwanda. The driver-guide will respond to some of your questions, share a glass of juice and then hit the road to Virunga national park; one of the oldest national parks in Africa and home to the worlds surviving endangered mountain gorilla species; human's closest relatives. The drive lasts for approximately 5-6 hours, with a brief city tour and an enroute stopover for lunch.
You will traverse the flourishing landscape, scenic Rwanda-Congo border post where you will get new documents to use in D.R. Congo. Arrival at the lodge in or around the park will be late in the evening for refreshment, dinner and a nap.
Day2: Gorilla trekking and Lake Kivu exploration
Early in the morning, you will enjoy a hefty breakfast meal and then join the rest at the park headquarters for what will yet be called a lifetime opportunity for a reunion with your closest relatives - the gorillas. This mission starts with registration and briefing by the park rangers at about 8:00 am, explaining the dos and don'ts while with the apes; lifestyle of apes and allocating members to the families of their choice.
The park rangers will then accompany you to search for these gentle Apes, right from where they were last seen to where they are suspected. This 1-6 hours’ search plus one extra hour for photography, questions and sightseeing come with plenty of surprise sights of other residents in the Jungle such as the monkeys, mammals, birds, reptiles, other mountains and rare tree species.
After the adventure; you will have a lunch break, and then drive to the shores of Lake Kivu; a freshwater lake for relaxation, horse riding and canoe experience among others, before retiring with dinner and a nap.
Day3: Departure
Depending on your flight time, you will enjoy a relaxed breakfast, followed by an optional activity, before hitting the road to Kigali airport for your flight to the next destination. However, there will be an enroute lunch stopover.
